John Lansing Jr. was a delegate to the Philadelphia Convention from New York.
Lansing was born in Albany to a family that had been in America since the 1600s.
He practiced law in New York and served in the state legislature and the Continental Congress.
Lansing left the Philadelphia Convention in July, along with another New York delegate, because he opposed the creation of an entirely new government.
He believed that the Articles of Confederation should simply have been amended.
He worked against ratification of the Constitution in New York.
Lansing devoted the years after the convention to various public offices in the state of New York.
