About Justice Is Also Deaf |
"Linguistic exclusion leaves too many Deaf Americans out of the political debate. Justice Is Also Deaf seeks to create access to a language rich environment and provide resources and opportunities for Deaf students to engage in a dialogue among the Deaf and hearing communities about what it means to live in a representative democracy." —Ken Hurley, Civication
The Center for Civic Education collaborates with Civication, Inc., to promote civic education in schools for the deaf. The Justice Is Also Deaf project encourages deaf and hard of hearing students and teachers to participate in the We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution program. The project includes free curricular materials, professional development opportunities, and technical assistance to teachers. The project culminates in simulated congressional hearings in these schools and in the Justice Is Also Deaf National Finals in Washington, D.C.

Each year, students from deaf schools across the nation compete in the Justice Is Also Deaf National Competition.
